Never Be Afraid: A Jew in the Maquis
Published in Paperback by Azenphony Pr (March, 1997)
Authors: Bernard Mednicki and Ken Wachsberger
Average review score:

'Everyman' is flung into the French Resistance:
Speaking in Mednicki's colorful venacular, the book, as told to Ken Wachsberger, transforms the man's wit, and charm into sheer guts. We feel drawn irresistibly around the campfire: as a child, street-smart in Belgium, Mednicki survived WWI. As adult, he led his family into French mountains, stumbling onto guerilla war, and the inevitable

Petrus Christus : Renaissance master of Bruges
Published in Unknown Binding by Metropolitan Museum of Art : [Distributed by H.N. Abrams] ()
Author: Maryan Wynn Ainsworth
Average review score:

Petrus Christus fan!
Thank you Maryan Ainsworth for this wonderful comprehensive text on Petrus Christus, the "most minor of the major masters" of the Northern Renaissance. He is often overshadowed by Jan van Eyck, and this book allows Christus to shine in his own right.

The Rough Guide Dublin Map
Published in Map by Rough Guides (16 May, 2002)
Author: Rough Guides
Average review score:

Best Dublin Guide Yet
I have read several guides to Dublin and the Rough Guide is the best by far. It is packed full of information in, and unlike many of the other guides, it includes information on off-the-beaten path destinations and day trips outside of Dublin.

It has lots of practical information that the first-time traveler to Dublin should know, like what buses you can take from the airport, the (new) location of the Dublin Tourist Office, and the costs of public transport.

The style of the Rough Guide is very enjoyable as well. Instead of just a few recommendations for rooms and restaurants, the guide includes many suiting virtually all tastes and budgets.

Highly recommended.

Rubens (Art and Ideas)
Published in Paperback by Phaidon Press Inc. (November, 1998)
Author: Kristin Lohse Belkin
Average review score:

A Wonderful Introduction
I read this book for an upper-level college art history class and loved every page. I was actually sad that I finished the book! Few art history books combine the stunning visual images and masterful prose that this one does. A very interesting and informative book that will introduce you to one of the most under-appreciated artists - the genius Peter Paul Rubens.

Résiliation et résolution unilatérales en droit commercial belge : éléments d'appréciation
Published in Unknown Binding by Bruylant ()
Author: Thierry Delahaye
Average review score:

A Civil Law approach with a universal flavor
Throughout the pages of this wonderful work, the author gives a thorough picture of the subject of contract rescission and resolution. Belgian law is scrutinezed, and reference to French and other legal systems are made. The work, devoted to a modern topic of economic contract law, makes useful reading for any professional working or doing academic research on the field, and can easily be understood in its clear french. Most of the proposed doctrines will be applicable to any Civil Law based country, and will certainly show an insightful view on the subject for the common law user. For this reason, the work may be clasified as universal

Streetwise Brussels
Published in Map by Streetwise Maps (June, 2002)
Authors: Streetwise Maps and Michael Brown
Average review score:

Good Map of City + Environs, Bruxelles
I bought several Streetwise City Maps and this one is the best -- about the size of an envelope (accordian folded with 9 sections/folds). It is very detailed in the city center, public transport, and the larger urban area. Highly reccommended.

Most place names are in French + Flemish.

Tonight They All Dance: 92 Latin & English Haiku
Published in Paperback by Bolchazy Carducci (October, 1999)
Authors: Dirk Sacre, Marcel Smets, Mark McIntyre, Harudine, and Herman Servotte
Average review score:

Good Book!
I bought this book thinking I might use it in my Latin classes. Some of the vocabulary is unusual--not the common words found in the Cambridge Latin Course! I'm going to have to think about how to incorporate it in a lesson or unit--maybe with uses of the ablative or something. I love the fact that the translations are also Haiku! The font and illustrations are very pleasant. This book puts me in a relaxed, peaceful mood.

TripBuilder: Amsterdam
Published in Paperback by TripBuilder, Inc. (September, 1999)
Authors: Scott Doggett and TripBuilder Inc.
Average review score:

Pocket Guide surpasses expectations
Like all the other Tripbuilder city guides, this book surpasses expectation.

Compact enough to put in a jacket or a purse, this quick-reference guide provides a thorough description of the city and what it offers. It is especially helpful to have the background on the points of interest, and what their significance is in terms of history, culture, etc. Having the book provide information on what would appeal to historical and art buffs, to children, etc. gives the visitor quite a selection to choose from.

We especially liked the colorful map that has everything color-coded and numbered, including the public transportation system. This is helpful for those who want to experience the local color by getting around on foot, or on wheels other than expensive taxis.

The great tips on what to do to make the visit to Amsterdam even more meaningful are right on the money.

Amsterdam is such a charming, delightful city; and this book contributed tremendously to giving us a greater appreciation for it.

Bravo!

Tug of War: The Canadian Victory That Opened Antwerp
Published in Hardcover by Stoddart Pub (April, 2000)
Authors: W. Denis Whitaker, Shelagh Whitaker, and Denis Whitaker
Average review score:

A well-written, comprehensive history of a forgotten war
Denis Whitaker was there on the sodden polders of Zeeland. He remembers the brutal battle to save the Dutch in their own land. He and the many Allied troops fought valiantly against the Germans to open up Antwerp to deliver the much-needed supplies. This big book, full of maps, is bursting with first-hand accounts in a first-rate narrative.
